It’s with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news of the passing of Cal Guess, an 8-year-old student at Arab Elementary School, who lost his life following an ATV accident in Union Grove, Alabama, on Sunday, October 19, 2025. According to the Marshall County Coroner’s Office, Cal was thrown from an ATV during a single-vehicle crash on private property along Rescue Road.

Cal was transported to Huntsville Hospital and later airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, but tragically, he was pronounced dead on Monday. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Arab City Schools shared their deep sorrow, noting, “Cal brought so much joy, laughter, and light to our classrooms and hallways each day. His absence will be felt by everyone who knew and loved him.” Counselors have been made available to support students, staff, and the broader community as they cope with this heartbreaking loss.
Cal will be remembered for his bright spirit, kind heart, and the joy he brought to everyone around him. The community mourns alongside his family and friends during this difficult time.
